Detailed Description
This specialist qualification is designed for exercise professionals and community coaches, that want to deepen their expertise and confidently support clients living with long-term health conditions. It provides the essential knowledge, practical skills, and professional confidence to deliver safe, effective, and person-centred exercise programmes that improve quality of life and support disease prevention.
Through a combination of interactive online learning, face-to-face workshops, and applied practical assessments, you will develop the competence to assess clients, design tailored exercise programmes, and support long-term behaviour change for those living with long term conditions
This qualification has been endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) It usually costs around £650 and is the pre-requisite to any further specialist fitness qualifications for long-term conditions and rehabilitation pathways, such as Cancer, Cardiac, Stroke, Neurological Conditions, MSK, Diabetes and Weight Management.
Pre-requisites:
• You must hold a level 2 qualification in a relevant discipline, such as Gym Instructor, Group Exercise Instructor, Sports Coaching, Swimming Teacher (or equivalent). We also welcome anyone onto the course with CIMSPA Practitioner status.
• We welcome applicants from a wide range of coaching, sport, and exercise backgrounds. We recognise that many people living with long-term conditions may prefer to be active outside of a traditional gym setting, and this qualification is designed to support professionals from across the sector to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to work effectively with these individuals.
The assessments to pass the Exercise Prescription for Long Term Conditions Award are:
• Completion of four online workbooks
• Completion of a case study
• A practical assessment and viva
Course dates: 15-19 June 2026. Practical Assessments are planned for the w/c 22 June 2026

If you would like to complete this qualification award, you will need to pay a one-off fee of £400 and complete all assessments.
