We have been endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) for both Sport and Exercise Science BSc and Physical Activity Sport and Health BSc. The Gym Instructor Award is the minimum qualification needed to work within the fitness industry. It teaches how to support general population clients in a gym-based environment, and how to safely instruct, monitor and adapt gym-based exercise. It usually costs around £600 and is the pre-requisite to any further fitness qualifications.
The CIMSPA professional standards for the Gym Instructor Award have been mapped against the teaching and learning within the Developing Professional Skills and Foundations of Physiology and Nutrition modules. This means that the majority of the Gym Instructor content has been built into your degree this year and you will only need to complete a few additional assessments to achieve the full award.
The assessments to pass the Gym Instructor Award are:
• | Completion of an online health and safety worksheet |
• | Two online 15 question anatomy and physiology tests |
• | Completion of a session plan that safely and effectively introduces a client to gym-based exercise |
• | A practical assessment where you will be required to complete a full induction safely and effectively instruct a client through your session plan |
If you would like to complete the Gym Instructor Award you will need to complete all assessments and pay an assessment fee of £30. This fee is to cover the cost of your practical assessment.
