The Exercise Instructor Award is the minimum qualification needed to coach exercise.
Detailed Description
The School of Sport and Physical Activity have created an Exercise Instructor Award, fully mapped to the CIMSPA Gym Instructor Professional Standards. Sheffield Hallam is a CIMSPA Higher Education Partner, allowing them to be the Awarding Organisation for this Award. The Exercise Instructor Award is the minimum qualification needed to work within the fitness industry. It teaches how to support general population clients to exercise in and out of the gym-based environment, and how to safely instruct, monitor and adapt gym-based exercise. It usually costs around £600 and is the pre-requisite to any further fitness qualifications, such as the Personal Trainer Award and the Exercise Prescription for Long Term Conditions Award.
The Exercise Instructor Award is taught over 4 days, at Sheffield Hallam's City Campus. The course will be taught over Thursday 5th, 12th 19th and 26th February - attendance at all four dates is essential. Practical assessments dates will be arranged accordingly. To complete the Award, students will need to:
• Completion of an online health and safety workbook
• Coomplete two online anatomy and physiology workbook
• Completion a six week reflective training diary
• Complete a practical assessment in which they safely and effectively instruct a client through a planned exercise session
