DescriptionNew for 2024, Sheffield Business School are hosting a doctoral research week, with events from Monday 10th –Thursday 13th June 2024. Over the week there will be lots of opportunities to connect (and reconnect) with other doctoral students with events designed to support you and your research. All academic and community-building events are free to attend but please note that travel costs will not be reimbursed.

More InformationEvent details: • DBA Welcome and Networking: connect and re-connect with current DBA researchers – this will be an informal networking opportunity on City Campus, with information for those of you visiting Sheffield from afar on how to make the most of your stay in the city • Symposium: this event will bring together alumni and current doctoral researchers to explore the impact of completing doctoral research on business and management practices. The symposium will provide an opportunity to network with other doctoral researchers and to learn from and share experiences with those who have completed their doctorate and learn about life after the doctorate. Keynote speakers will include Dr Richard Field, OBE, Visiting Professor at Sheffield Hallam University and former Master Cutler. Richard was the first SBS DBA graduate, thesis title ‘Working with Top Management Teams: Conversations Contributing to Board Development’. • Workshops: Presenting your research and networking: this workshop will provide practical advice and guidance on how to present academic research at conferences and how to network at conferences and research events. The nuts and bolts of the RF2 + Academic Writing for your RF2: This workshop is aimed at PGRs coming up to their RF2 and will prepare you to write the RF2. Managing your relationship with your supervisor: this workshop will help you to understand what to expect from the supervisor-researcher relationship and covers tips on how to establish and manage an effective working relationship with your supervisory team. Finishing your doctorate: this workshop is aimed at those who are heading towards or are in the ‘write up’ phase of their doctorate. The session will focus on the unique challenges you may face in writing up and provide detail of the final steps in finishing your doctorate. Social writing time: this session will provide you with the space and time to focus on writing, whether that is preparing your presentation slides for the conference, writing a chapter of your thesis or another project of your choice. • Day Trip: To Chatsworth House a short coach trip from Sheffield to spend the day at this world-renowned stately home, gardens and estate in the Peak District National Park. • Sheffield Business School Annual Doctoral and Early Career Researcher Conference: The annual conference is for all doctoral students and ECRs and will contain a mixture of keynote speakers and staff and student presentations. |
